Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Madoc Public Library began in 1995 as a support group for the library, which was in great danger of losing its funding due to Provincial Government cut backs. Since then the membership has expanded greatly. The Friends are delighted to support the library through their fundraising efforts. In the past they have held garage sales and bake sales, painted and sold Christmas tree ornaments, instituted the Patronage & shelf name plate projects, collected Foodland tapes and sold Nevada tickets. And of course, they operate the BOOKWORM, a used book store.
The Bookworm has become an institution in Madoc. Not only is it the Friends's best fundraiser, it is the place where people drop in to greet their friends (much like the library)! The friendly, inviting atmosphere is due to the wonderful volunteers to whom the Library owes so much. Through the generosity of the community, the Friends have been able to raise enough money to purchase various items for the library such as:
- Books
- DVDS
- Audio books
- Computers
- VCR player
- DVD projector
- Fax machine
- Paperback stands
- Automated Library cards
- Television and stand
- Furniture for Cultural Centre
- Furniture for Children's Library
- Funds to hire Summer student
- They have also established a Bursary for a Madoc resident from CHSS.
